Locals of Zhewun-yelwa, a village located in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State, have staged a peaceful protest against
displacing them from their ancestral homes’
The locals who are mostly farmers, gathered in their numbers at the Yelwa Primary School to expressed their dissatisfaction.
Rural Post observed that during the protest, the locals displayed placards with various inscriptions as: “Our fathers’ graveyards are not for sale,”.
“Land grabbers, leave us alone,” “Allow our ancestors to rest in peace,” “We are going nowhere,” among others.
They vowed to resist any attempt to deprive them of the only community they have known as home for years.
Rural post learned, the Nasarawa State Government had earlier given the inhabitants quit notice some weeks ago to vacate the community
The development which the locals were angry with. Zhewun-Yelwa boasts of sprawling arable land and lush green vegetation.
