Army recover assorted weapons in sokoto border village


Nigerian Army have recovered assorted weapons comprising of RPG bombs, RPG chargers, machine gun, AK47 assault rifle among others around Sabo Birni border town of Sokoto State.

This is contained in a release signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General, Mohammed Yerima who said the troops also neutralised three gunrunners to recover the weapons.

He said the troops had received credible information that suspected gunrunners were moving weapons on foot from Niger Republic into Nigeria around 11pm adding that the highly vigilant troops had mounted a successful ambush along the suspected route, close to Garin Naimaimai Village to neutralize the three gunrunners.

“Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Faruk Yahaya commended the efforts of the troops and urged them to sustain operation in all the illegal routes around the border areas with the Niger Republic to frustrate any movement of weapons and ammunition into the country,” he said.
