flood kills 19 Kano residents


A vehicle conveying people was reportedly eroded by flood, leaving no fewer than 19 people dead in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Rural Post learned the ugly incident was attributed to the torrential downpour that lasted several hours at the weekend.

It was gathered that human beings and domesticated animals, including birds, as well as food stuff, were destroyed.

Also, several homes were submerged in the flood. Alhaji Yusuf Umar, Village Head of Doguwa settlement confirmed the incident to newsmen.

He said 15 bodies have been recovered while the search was intensified to recover the corpses of the remaining four victims.

It was gathered the vehicle conveying the dead was washed away by the flood after its engine went off in the middle of a bridge on Friday night

Also, the Spokesman for the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Ali Abdullahi Garko, described the incident as very unfortunate.
