Heavy downpour destroys 1,567 farmlands, kills 5 in Bauchi


Torrential rain has destroyed no fewer than 1,567 farmlands, as well as claimed 5 lives in Jama’are Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Rural Post learned the rain which lasted for 20 hours submerged farmlands and destroyed crops in seven villages in the area.

The Council’s Chairman, Samaila Jarma confirmed the incident. He listed the affected areas to include Jogiyal, Yola, Doko-Doko, Gongo, Kabigel, Digiza, and Massalacin Idi area of Jama’are town.

He said the flood was caused by the overflow of water from the Jos river due to torrential rainfall which lasted for several hours on Tuesday.

“We recovered five corpses from the water in submerged areas”, it was gathered.
