At least 80 people have been killed in Sokoto between October and November 2021.
Over 40 people were killed following raids by bandits across communities in Sokoto State this week. This figure is more than the initial death toll given by officials, a spokesman for the state governor said on Wednesday.
In October, bandits killed at least 43 people in the state at a weekly market in Goronyo. The market was crowded with shoppers and traders when the bandits attacked, shooting sporadically. The attack took place on Sunday 18, October and continued on the following day.
The latest attacks in Sokoto’s Illela town bordering Niger republic town also took place on Sunday night, 14 November 2021 into the early hours of Monday morning.
Bandits operating in northwestern Nigeria for profit have killed or kidnapped hundreds of this year.
